There is no simple answer to your question. How does the brain to do this is probably the most complex area of science. That science is known as cognitive neuroscience. It has experienced a boom, more than 30 years, and today the most widely accepted source of answers is in psychology. The study of more books on this subject, the more you have the answer to your question. I worked hard on this path of knowledge of 20 years.
